Marriage In Islam

Marriage is a social institution as old as humanity itself. It is a beautiful gift from Allah to the human. With it, the half faith of Muslims is completed and the mind of a person is free from evil thoughts. Marriage in islam is a bond by which Sexual intercourse becomes lawful. Marriage is a social contract signed by a man and a woman with their consent. It is a relation between man and woman recognized by law and customs of the society. The purpose of marriage is to regulate the relationship between two sexes and to determine the relationship of the child to the society which is born as the result of marriage.

Firstly, the aim of marriage is not only sexual gratification. It is a social contract in which men and women have several duties and responsibilities. A man has to provide his family with the basic needs of life and the duty of the woman is to discipline his children and take care of his house and wealth.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, A person who marries, has already guarded his half faith. Therefore he should fear Allah to keep his other half. 

Rasoolullah ﷺ also said that a person who has adequate means of life should marry and those who have not should fast. Marriage brings chastity and modesty which is important for a healthy life.

Benefits Of Marriage In Islam: 

Some of the benefits of marriage in Islam are

1).  Through marriage man and woman achieve mutual affection and peace of heart. 

2). By marriage man and woman have righteous offspring. The survival of the next generation depends upon marriage.  Having children and upbringing of them on the Islamic principle is considered the best charity in Islam. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ  said:

When a person dies his deeds and action discontinue except for three things. sadaqa-al -jariya, knowledge which people benefit from, and his children who pray for him after his death.

3). By marriage, the luck of two people combines and becomes one. Allah said that I will enrich them and bless them with good fortune and livelihood.

Allah said in the Quran:

Marry off the free singles among you, as well as the righteous of your bondmen and bondwomen. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them out of His bounty. For Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing. (An-Nur 24:32)

4). A devoted wife in this world is the blessing of Allah. Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said:

“ A world is but the provision, And there is no provision better than a good and loyal wife.

5). By marriage, Allah gives us children which are the greatest reward of this word and the other. Because having pious kids is an ongoing charity and they will pray for you even after your death.

6). Nikah is a way of Jannah. It completes our faith and prohibits us from sins. We become responsible and there is no time for wrongdoings.

 

Importance Of Marriage In Islam:  

Islam has given much importance to marriage because it protects us from against sins. We can fulfill our sexual desires in the right way through nikah. When a couple lives happily it increases their respect in society.

Islam emphasizes early marriage. It will forbid us from a sinful life and we become more focused on living a productive and pious life.

Husband and wife help each other at the time of difficulty. They support each other in happiness and sorrow. Islam recommended Nikah for every Muslim man and woman.

“And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-encompassing and Knowing”.
